8 Reasons Why You’ve GOT to Keep Watching Baseball
A Braves blog expanding its borders for the postseason, coming to you from off the couch in Atlanta… it’s JB.
So maybe your favorite team is out of it already. Maybe your team finished just better than one of the worst teams in baseball (like my Braves). And there won’t be a Cubs/Red Sox World Series or a Windy City Series but if you can step down from that ledge, my friend and if you’re not too upset, there’s still some potentially exciting moments we can still hope for if you love the game.
1) Manny’s Return
A homecoming of sorts could be in line if we’re lucky enough to witness a Dodgers/BoSox World Series matchup. Yes the quaff has been tamed a little since his Red Sox days but bringing Manny back to Fenway would be reason enough for many Manny fans and haters alike to tune in.
2) Dodgers vs Angels World Series
Ok so we’ve had Dodgers vs Giants, Dodgers vs A’s, and Angels vs Giants. But you have to admit watching the Los Angeles Dodgers vs the California…Anaheim…whatever…let’s just call them The Mighty Angels of Anaheim, play in the first “Freeway Series” would be a great west coast rivalry matchup. And you got to think, Dodger fans are probably especially hateful to the identity crisis stricken Halo’s since trying to steal their first name…again.
3) Griffey Gets a Ring\
600+ home runs, a hall of fame career, (though greatly injury ridden) and a ring on his finger. It would be a great item for the Kid to check off of his “to-do” list. The unsung hero finally playing for a competitor gets his one shot and the “Anti-Bonds” snags something that would make A-Rod tinkle in his pants.
4)Torre In Fenway\
In all those years with the Yankees, Torre made himself quite comfortable in Boston’s visiting dugout. Wouldn’t it be great to see Joe with his West Coast Blues on pay another October visit to Fenway?
5) Phillies First Title in 28 Years
So maybe it’s not the story of the year and the Phillies are not the Cubs, but Philadelphia Phanatics have been craving another title since 1980 and they may get their chance. They’ve got to win two series to make it happen and the Dodgers have gotten hot at just the right time.
6)Watching the White Sox Lose
I put this one in here for all the Cubs fans. It may not make up for another disheartening October for the Friendlies but any die-in-the-wool Cubs fan will tell you… it’s something.
7) Rays Complete their Cinderella Run
No I don’t REALLY want to see October baseball played in a cowbell crazed “Trop” simply because I hate indoor baseball. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like this team. Young, athletic, and paid not nearly as much as the other teams in the division they took, it’s a good story. Watching them win their first title may make some baseball purists mad *groan- three World Series Championships in 11 years… in Florida!!* and a whole lot of St. Petersburg(er)s feel good about life. But let’s not forget, one of the best World Series ever was played in a worst to first dome in 1991.
8) Another Classic World Series Matchup
Despite which two teams we end up with, let’s hope for another classic World Series Who knew 1991 Twins vs Braves or 2001 D-Backs vs Yankees or 1960 Pirates vs Yankees could be so good? A good ol’ 7 game knock down, drag out, fight to the finish full of drama, sub plots, and good stories (bloody sock, gimpy leg etc.) would make for a pretty entertaining finish to this 2008.
